The dual camera smartphones craze started back in 2016 when Apple launched the iPhone 7 Plus. Back then, dual cameras were a pipe dream. Only the flagship phones were supposed to have this feature. It had one main camera which took most of the photos. The other one though was either a wide angle shooter or just a telephoto lens.
Sometimes, that secondary rear camera was used for depth sensing, giving a total bokeh effect on the photos. There are many ways this dual camera could be set up, and therefore it is up to that specific manufacturer to take advantage of such technology, available at its disposal.
Talking about dual camera smartphones of 2018-2019, there are a lot of ones that still are not released yet. Some major ones like the One Plus 6, Huawei P20 Pro or the Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ are already in the hands of the consumers though. Therefore, we look at some of the upcoming dual camera smartphones, planned to release during the rest of the year, 2018-2019.
Samsung Galaxy Note 9 – Dual Camera Smartphones
The biggest yet release of the year so far is still, undone. Last year, just when the Galaxy Note 8 was released, people started to talk about the Galaxy Note 9. Such was the aura of Samsung among its customers.

It is said that Samsung will bring back the dual aperture feature of the Galaxy S9/S9+ along with various other features like improved S-Pen, maybe an in-display fingerprint scanner and a large 6.4” touchscreen. The camera is expected to provide almost the same results as S9/S9+, as was last year with Note 8 and S8/S8+. Though Samsung might surprise us here.
Apple iPhone 9/9+ And iPhone X Plus
Basically, the iPhone 9+ and iPhone X Plus deserve to be on this list. But it is Apple – you never know. The base iPhone 9 variant, may also have a dual camera this time around.
Apple iPhone X Plus
This is due to increased pressure from competitions like Samsung and Oneplus. Apple is said to have the same camera setup, as it did last year. Though the underlying processing, along with various other things like lens and sensor might change.
Just like Apple, Google made it a habit to release only one model per year. And that will be the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. Last year, with the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, there was huge disappointments regarding the lack of dual camera setup. But Google’s AI and Machine Learning saved their grace with that single camera setup.

This time, it won’t be the same. Everyone is craving for the dual camera, or even triple camera setups, like the Huawei P20 Pro. Therefore, Google really has to up their its game against the big boys here. Other features include an 18:9 aspect ratio screen and as usual, stock Android P.
LG V40 ThinQ
The LG G7 ThinQ has already been released and is slowly entering the market now, as with every LG phones out there. The V40 ThinQ will follow the same footsteps of the G7, and will mostly have a same exact dual camera, with the same features, technology and what not. The LG fans out there, definitely are very much anticipated for its arrival.
Xiaomi is the kind of brand that makes crazy things possible at crazy budget-oriented phones. The Mi7 will be an upper mid-range phone, with a nice dual 12 Megapixel rear shooters.

As with Xiaomi’s other phones, this will support 18:9 aspect ratio with very, very fewer bezels to start with. The other specs will include a standard Snapdragon 845 chipset with 6 or 8GB of RAM.
Xiaomi Mi Mix 3
When Xiaomi came out with the Mi Mix, almost two years ago, people were stunned by its lack of bezels. Little did we know, that bezel-less future of smartphones is just around the corner. The Mi Mix 3 will almost have the same specs as the Mi 7, and will even have the same dual 12 Megapixel shooter on the back. Therefore, the picture quality is expected to be quite the same.
Samsung Galaxy S10/10+
Every year, Samsung releases it’s Galaxy S line of phones around the February or March time, after the Mobile World Congress, typically. 2019 wouldn’t be any different. The S10/10+ will definitely sport a newer generation of dual cameras or even triple cameras, now that Huawei has already done it. It will be interesting to see what innovation does Samsung can afford to bring in 2019. At least the performance of the camera will be even more than the Note 9 or the S9/S9+.
It can be said that dual camera smartphones are just the rage now, and we will see more of dual camera smartphone setups, as we progress. There’s no stopping it. And therefore, for manufacturers, it is like – either you join the bandwagon or lose it. It will be no surprise if we see a quad camera setup in the near future. But, people are slowly understanding the reasons for having a dual camera, and also its advantages – so it will be more easy for new buyers now to know, what is a better camera technology.
