Google has always had a line-up of smartphones though not manufactured by themselves designed and controlled by its own to showcase the pure form of its operating system, Android. Initially, it was the Nexus series of devices and since 2016 it is known as the ‘Pixel’, maybe Google wanted an emphasis on the camera aspect of the smartphone and it stood by its name. Google Pixel 4 is the fourth generation Google phone that is scheduled for October 2019.
Google Pixel 2 was hands down the best camera for a whole year. Even though there were some smartphones to have a better score on DxO mark in real life it couldn’t offer what the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL offered overall.
Google Pixel 4 – Upcoming Google Phones
Google Pixel 4 Rumors
Google Pixel 3 and 3 XL are around the corners almost ready to launch and here we are eager about the Google Pixel 4. It is understandable provided the camera, performance and the software experience that Google provides, it is so easy to stick with a device for two years and Google Pixel 2 owners are looking ahead to the Google Pixel 4. Since it is too early we have not received any rumours yet so this is more about expectations. Let’s see them in the upcoming topics.
Google Pixel 4 Specs
Pixel devices have flagship specs in them. In late 2019 it must be Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 which will still be the best chip. SD 855 paired with at least 6 GB of RAM would do the trick for Pixel 4 devices. Google generally doesn’t differentiate any feature between the Google Pixel 4 and the 4 XL, unlike Apple and Samsung which discriminate against smaller devices against some newer features. Storage options should be 128 and 256 GB internal and no option to expand, given the devices are flagships. Screen and design were weak factors of Pixel devices. We will see deep about them in the following topics.
Cameras must pick up change at least in the 4th generation. Last 3 gen, Google was bold enough to walk out with a single camera unlike any other flagship and still managed to be the best in class. This time we might a have a functional secondary unit to the back, probably a wide angle shooter to have some impossible shots taken. Battery surely needs an increase on the smaller sibling as it tends to die before the end of the day on heavy usage scenario.
|Processor||Qualcomm Snapdragon 855
|Display||5.4 inch OLED FHD+ / 6.2 inch OLED QHD+
|Camera||12 MP + 8 MP rear camera, 12 MP front camera
|Internal Storage||128 / 256 Gb
Google Pixel 4 Features
Being a Pixel smartphone what other feature will you remember first than the pure Android experience. It is so well optimized and makes feel the device so fast and fluid. Updates are guaranteed for two years with monthly security patches and version upgrades.
The cameras are no doubt excellent mainly due to the software processing algorithm of Google which was acquired form tons of machine learning. After all, that is why the Pixel 2 was able to beat other smartphones which got DxO photo rating of 108. Though some feel it incomplete with the lack of manual mode compared to its competitors likely Apple and Samsung which widens more possibilities like long exposure shot and more.
Google Pixel 4 Concept
Let’s talk design and display, Pixel’s lack behind in this department for a very long time. They stick to a unique two-tone back, the upper half is the glass and the rest is metal which looks good but not out of the world beautiful. This design simply eliminates the possibility of a wireless charging coil to be put in. Hope Google uses glass on the back and coats it with plastic to look the same to rectify on it.
Despite Google putting a lot of effort into the software and camera, their design, especially screen placement looks effortless. Like the simply shoved in the screen on the space left by the sensors. Google should have done it better, at least this time with the completely bezel-less design and no screen issues like on Google Pixel 2 XL, let the Google Pixel 4 shine well.
Google Pixel 4 Price & Release
The regular Google Pixel 4 should start at 649 USD and the other variant priced at 750 USD close to the 800 USD price point of its bigger brother Google Pixel 4 XL. With this pricing, the minor drawbacks like not on par design can be easily forgiven for the best in class software and camera experience.
The release event will occur mostly in the US during the month of October 2019. Pre-order should immediately start in the US and few other major markets through Google’s online retail and few other third-party resellers.
